2019 Golf Outing

Please join the Gabrail Family Foundation for food, drinks, golf, and prizes to help raise money for the First Tee of Akron. On September 23, 2019, the Gabrail Family Foundation will host a golf outing at Portage Country Club to bring in donations for this worthy cause.

Being avid golfers themselves, the individuals behind this outing sought to make sure they eliminated the boring parts of other golf outings: long drawn-out introductions, unrealizable hole-in-one prizes, and endless dinners/ceremonies with sub-par food and everyone looking at their watches hoping to find a good time to leave.

The Gabrail Family Foundation is eliminating all of that. The following is a preliminary schedule of events that day:

11:00 AM-12:00 PM – Registration and Lunch

12:30 PM – Shotgun Tee-Off

4:45 PM - 6:45 PM – Happy Hour, Silent Auction, Putting Competition, and Heavy Hors D'Oeuvres

Why did we choose to sponsor a golf outing to benefit the First Tee of Akron?

Simple: it gives children in today’s digital age the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and learn a sport that has physical, as well as emotional and psychological, benefits. If you are a golfer, you know the frustrations of the game, the competition endured, and the satisfaction of shooting that new low round.

You likely also know the mental toll that the sport can take on you, in addition to the physical toll. If you grew up playing the game, you probably took away a lot of life lessons from your experiences on the course, lessons such as sportsmanship when you lost or mental acuity to hit that match-winning putt.

These days, kids spend a lot of time texting on their iPhones, playing “Fortnite” on their iPads, or gaming against other people on an Xbox or PlayStation console.

It is a struggle to learn life's lessons sitting in front of a screen multiple hours a day. The Gabrail Family Foundation is dedicated in part of advancing more meaningful extracurriculars in the lives of America's youth so that they can learn how to handle the different challenges that life will throw at them, challenges that an iPad can't teach them to endure.
